The cornerstone of the Spyderco Save and Serve series, the Military Model was created after someone asked Spyderco's owner, Sal Glessert: "If your son is going into the military, what pocket knife would you send him?" It had to meet the requirements of a high-performance, lightweight pocket knife designed for hard use.
To make an even more suitable blade, the blade was given a matte black DLC coating. Since steel is the soul of a knife, CPM-S30V steel was a logical choice for the blade, as it is proven for long-term edge retention and rust resistance. The "Millie" modified clip-point blade in non-reflective black has a laser-cut 14 mm Spyderco Round Hole opening, for quick opening and use with gloves. The textured thumb ramp above the hole is connected to the blade spine, so you can reliably control the sharp edge while cutting. The handle panels are made of G-10; the lock liner is embedded directly in the panel, so lock strength is increased without adding large liners. Spacers between the panels create a gap running the full length of the handle, exposing the interior for inspection and cleaning. The handle curves slightly at the front end, creating a finger groove, and at the end of the handle, which prevents the knife from slipping forwards or backwards in the hand when stabbing or making hard, aggressive cuts.
