The Native 5 is the result of years of development and refinement of Spyderco's popular Native model. It keeps the size, shape and ergonomics that proved themselves in the original concept, with the benefits of the latest materials and an extremely refined back-lock mechanism, representing the peak of strength, precision and ease of handling.
The Native 5's outstanding construction combines all the features and advantages of the original model with a premium blade made of Crucible CPM-S110V stainless steel. The impressive CPM-S110V, with 2.8% carbon and a high content of vanadium and niobium, is designed for exceptional wear resistance and enhanced corrosion resistance – key properties for a high-performance blade steel. These properties are locked into the material by the Crucible Particle Metallurgy (CPM) powder metallurgy process, an advanced manufacturing method that greatly reduces alloy segregation within the steel and provides an extremely fine microstructure.
The Native 5's leaf-shaped blade has a long, gently curved cutting edge and a strong tip. For maximum control it has a finger groove and a thumb rest (with textured grooves), which allow a pre-positioned grip during detailed cutting tasks. The Round Hole opening hole, which is also a trademark, proudly identifies the knife as a Spyderco and helps both hands open it quickly and positively with one hand.
The Native 5's handle is built on a fully skeletonised stainless steel liner frame and covered with textured dark blue G-10 panels, a characteristic colour of Spyderco's CPM-S110V premium family. For comfortable carry and instant access, the handle has a wide-based four-position pocket clip supporting tip-up or tip-down carry on the left or right side.
