The Victorinox Grand Maître Wood series of forged knives offers exceptional quality, balance and timeless elegance. Both amateur and professional cooks will love these knives for turning their kitchen into a palace and treating loved ones to extraordinary meals. The blade is made of rust-resistant, wear-resistant steel, evenly hardened and forged from a single piece. The knife is full tang, with the blade running through the handle. The transition at the base of the blade is smooth and seamless. The bolster prevents the hand from sliding onto the blade. The elegant wooden handle, made of high-quality modified maple, has an ergonomic design that ensures comfort and excellent handling even over longer periods. Producing modified maple is an environmentally friendly, patented process that increases the durability and hardness of the wood and gives it its rich brown colour.
Victorinox has more than 130 years of experience and is proud to produce high-quality knives. The brand offers a lifetime guarantee against defects in material and workmanship.
Dishwasher use is not recommended.
Modified maple
Modified maple is produced by an environmentally friendly, patented process that uses a bio-based liquid to improve the properties of sustainable softwoods. The process permanently modifies the cell structure of the wood, giving it excellent properties and a rich brown colour.
There are various wood modification methods, all of which permanently change the structure of the cell walls. These include heat treatment, acetylation and polymer grafting.
The modified wood we use is produced by forming solid furan polymers that bond into the wood cells. This increases the stability, durability and hardness of the wood.
The process is based on impregnation with furfuryl alcohol, a liquid produced from agricultural bio-products. A plant-based waste product is thus used to give another plant product, namely wood, enhanced strength and durability.
Step 1: Impregnation. Impregnation is the process of soaking the wood in a bio-based liquid. During impregnation, the furfuryl alcohol produced from the bio-based liquid is fixed into the wood so that its dimensions remain stable.
Step 2: Staining and drying. After impregnation, the wood is heat-dried, which polymerises the furfuryl alcohol. This step is called curing. The polymers created in the wood cells by this process are very stable and cannot break down or leave the wood.
Step 3: Modified maple. After treatment, the wood's cell walls are about 50% thicker thanks to the stable, fixed polymers.
The permanent modification of the wood's cells ensures outstanding stability, maximum hardness and a guaranteed long service life for the wood product. The wood rarely splinters and contains no toxins or chemicals.
Modified maple also resists rot, fungi and other wood-destroying micro-organisms.
A low-maintenance material that needs no further treatment, such as oiling or other impregnating solutions, beyond normal cleaning.
Innovation, Design, Functionality, Tradition: together these make up the Made in Switzerland spirit of the Victorinox product portfolio. The world-famous Swiss Army knife has become a concept in itself, and the same familiar Swiss quality and precision characterises every Victorinox product series: pocket knives, kitchen knives and tools, bags, watches, fragrances.
